How can I help?

 

There are many ways by which you can help this event. Whether you want to help to organize, set up, clean up, fundraiser for the event

we have the right opportunities for you. We really need your help and each thing you matters to us.

Below you can find more detailed tasks you can upon. However, if what you were looking for is not listed on the list then please let us know

Areas in which the Red Cross can use YOUR help:

 

Recruit Volunteers / Organizers / Committee

-          Contact and meet with agencies, churches, and organizations

  1. Recruit agency representatives to serve in the WRD planning committee (to meet once a month until February)

-          Get AQ clubs involved OR start an AQ club that advocates for Refugees (including the organization of WRD)

-          Contact local Colleges and Universities who have video production / media experience

  1. Professors who would like to take WRD video on as a class project
  2. Students who would like to donate their time in exchange for a project in their portfolio

-          Contact High School workshop teachers—ask if they’d be interested in making this a class project.

 

Fundraising

-          Plan a Fundraiser for WRD2010 (utilize local businesses, dorms, etc.)

-          Apply for Grants to Fund WRD 2010

 

Communications

-          Create a Promotional Package which describes and advocates for the event

  1. Slideshow
  2. Manual
  3. Speech / Presentation

-          Meet with and Present to businesses and organizations that may offer partnership, sponsorship, or promotion of the event

  1. Local Media
  2. Local businesses, e.g. Home Depot or Ace Hardware (materials for tents, etc.), Ethnic Food Restaurants (donation or discount for food), Restaurants in the Rosa Parks Circle area (sponsorship of the location)
  3. Local non-profit organizations, e.g. Habitat for Humanity, Home Repair Services, etc. (provision / lending of tools, materials, volunteers)

-           Prepare and perform a presentation for the upcoming Freedom Flight meeting

  1. Freedom Flight is a meeting that takes up bi-monthly, where local agencies serving refugees in Grand Rapids update one another about their services, network with other professionals. The next Freedom Flight meeting will take place at the Red Cross—in this meeting, you can present the project and recruit agency representatives to participate in the planning committee.
