Grand Rapids World Refugee Day 2010

Every year on June 20, the world honors the courage, resilience and strength of refugees. On this sixth anniversary of the UN-designated World Refugee Day, thousands of organizations in hundreds of countries will come together to focus global attention not only on the plight of refugees, but also on their determination, their will to survive, and their contributions to the communities they now live in.

 

Here in Grand Rapids, Michigan, we will join the rest of the world celebrating World Refugee Day!

 

Activities: Cultural Performances Arts, Crafts Stalls, Dance, Drumming, Music, International Food Stalls and much more

Where: Rosa Parks Circle

When: Saturday, June 19th, from 1:00PM - 5:00PM

What: We'll enjoy music, dance, children's games, testimonials from refugees, crafts, and food!

Performers: Haitian Dance Group, Laura Armenta, Burundian Women's Choir, Gwaii, Mars Hill Church Choir, Shingi Mavima

Cost: Entrance is FREE! Food samples will be available to buy from local ethnic food vendors, and you will have the opportunity to purchase crafts made by refugees new to West Michigan.

Food: Chez Olga's (Haitian), Salam Store (Ethiopian), Parsley's (Mediterranean), Sami's Gyro (Mediterranean), Angel's Thai Cafe (Thai)
